A Website Is the First Thing People Find. Make It Count.

When somebody in Murray needs a plumber, a dentist, an attorney, a shop that can weld a bracket, or a place to hold a rehearsal dinner, they pull out a phone and search. They do not scroll the phone book and they do not drive around looking. They tap the first two or three results that look like a real business, and whoever loads fastest with the clearest answer usually gets the call.

That is the whole game for a local business website. It is not about animations or awards. It is about showing up when somebody is looking, loading before they lose patience, telling them in five seconds that you do the thing they need, and making the phone number impossible to miss. Everything we build is aimed at that.

Hughes Technology has been doing technology work in western Kentucky since 2015. We host hundreds of sites, run business phone systems, and manage networks for companies from Main Street storefronts to regional operations. So when we build a website, we are not handing you a pretty file and walking away. We are the ones keeping it online, keeping it patched, and picking up the phone when a form stops sending on a Friday afternoon.

That matters more than most people expect. The single most common call we get from a new customer is some version of: the guy who built our site quit answering, we do not know who has the domain, and nobody can log in. We can usually untangle that. But it is a lot easier when the people who built it are still in town.

Full Service

Design, Build, Host, Maintain

Most web designers hand off a site and disappear. Most hosting companies never saw your site until it broke. We do all of it, so there is nobody to blame but us.

Custom Design, Not a Template

We design around your business, your photos, and the customers you actually want. No stock layout with your logo dropped in the corner.

Mobile-First Build

More than half the people who find you are on a phone in a truck or a parking lot. Every page is built for that screen first, then the desktop.

SEO Built In From Day One

Page titles, headings, schema markup, sitemaps, and Search Console setup done right before launch, aimed at what people around here actually search.

Fast Hosting We Run Ourselves

Your site lives on our managed servers with SSL, daily backups, caching, and monitoring included. One company builds it, hosts it, and answers for it.

Ongoing Updates & Maintenance

New hours, new staff photo, a price change, a seasonal promo. Email or call and it gets handled, usually the same business day.

Local Support You Can Call

A Murray phone number and a person who knows your site. No chat bot, no ticket queue, no three-day wait on a support forum.

Already have a site and just need it hosted properly? See our managed web hosting plans.

An Honest Comparison

Local Web Designer vs. Wix, Squarespace & GoDaddy

The DIY builders are not scams and we are not going to pretend they are. They are a real option, and for some businesses they are the right one. Here is the honest tradeoff.

When a builder really is the better call

If you are testing an idea, running a side business out of the garage, or you only need a single page with your hours and a phone number, go build it yourself and put the money into tools or inventory instead. We will tell you that on the phone, for free, and we will not chase you about it.

When it starts costing you money

The math flips the moment your website is part of how you get customers. Every hour you spend fighting a page layout is an hour you are not billing. Every second your site takes to load, you lose visitors. And when a competitor two blocks over ranks above you for the exact search your customers use, that is not a $16 a month problem anymore. At that point a site that is built right, hosted right, and maintained by somebody local pays for itself in a couple of jobs.

How It Works

From First Conversation to Launch

Five steps, no mystery, and you know the price before we write a line of code.

01

Sit Down and Talk

Free, no pressure, in person at your place of business or over the phone. What do you sell, who buys it, what should a visitor do in the first ten seconds, and what has frustrated you about websites before.

02

Plan and Quote

You get a page-by-page plan and a fixed price in writing. No hourly surprises, no "scope creep" invoice at the end. If the honest answer is that you need less than you asked for, we say so.

03

Design and Build

We design the layout, write or clean up the copy, and build the real pages. You see a working staging site early, on your own phone, and we adjust while it is cheap to adjust.

04

Test and Launch

Speed testing, mobile testing, forms tested end to end, SSL installed, redirects mapped from your old pages, and Search Console and Analytics connected. Then we point the domain, usually with zero downtime.

05

Maintain and Improve

Updates, backups, monitoring, and content changes handled on your care plan. Every few months we look at what people are searching and what pages they land on, and we add to the site accordingly.

Hosting & Care Plans from $49/month

The build is a one-time cost. Keeping a site fast, patched, backed up, and current is ongoing, and that is where most local sites fall apart. Our care plans run on the same managed infrastructure behind our managed web hosting, so your designer, your host, and your support desk are all the same phone call.

Managed hosting on our own servers
Free SSL certificate, renewed automatically
Daily backups with 30-day retention
Software, plugin, and security updates
Malware scanning and firewall
Uptime monitoring
Content changes each month

A fair question we get: why does a five-page website cost more than a laptop? Because most of the work is not typing code. It is figuring out what your customers are looking for, writing pages that answer it in plain language, getting your photos to load fast on a phone with two bars, structuring the site so Google understands what you do and where you do it, wiring up forms and tracking so you know where a call came from, and testing all of it on real devices before anybody sees it.

The other half of the answer is what happens after launch. A site left alone for two years gets slow, gets out of date, and eventually gets broken into. The monthly plan is not a subscription fee for nothing. It is somebody watching the thing that represents your business to every stranger who searches for you.

One last thing worth saying out loud: a new website by itself does not guarantee traffic. It gives you something worth sending people to. If you want to speed that up, we also run Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and local SEO for Murray businesses, and the two work a lot better when the same team handles both.

FAQ

Website Design Questions We Hear Every Week

Most small business websites we build in Murray and Calloway County land between $1,500 and $5,000 one time, depending on how many pages you need and how much of the writing and photography we handle. A clean five-page site for a contractor, salon, or law office is usually in the $1,500 to $2,500 range. A larger site with service pages for every town you cover, online booking, or a customer portal runs $3,500 and up. Online stores start around $6,000 because product setup, payments, shipping rules, and tax settings are real work. Hosting and care are separate and start at $49 a month. Whatever the number is, you get it in writing as a fixed quote before we start, and it does not move unless you ask for something new.
A standard small business site takes three to five weeks from the day we start. The first week is planning and gathering: your services, your photos, your logo, and what you want a visitor to actually do. Weeks two and three are design and build. The last stretch is your review, revisions, and launch. The part that slows projects down is almost always content, so if you already have your text and photos ready we can move faster. If you are opening a business on a hard date, tell us the date and we will work backward from it. We have turned around simple one-page launch sites in a week when somebody needed to be online yesterday.
Yes. The domain stays registered in your name, the site files and the database are yours, and you can take a full copy of everything at any time by asking. We do not build on a locked platform that only we can touch, and we do not hold a site hostage to keep a customer. If you ever decide to move to another company or bring it in house, we will hand over the files, the logins, and the DNS and help the next person get set up. That is how we would want to be treated.
We host most of the sites we build on our own managed infrastructure, and that is what we recommend, but it is not required. Our hosting includes SSL, daily backups with 30-day retention, malware scanning, a firewall, caching, and monitoring, starting at $49 a month. The real reason to keep design and hosting under one roof is accountability: when a page is slow or a form stops sending, there is nobody to blame and no support ticket queue to sit in. You call us and it gets fixed. If you already have hosting you like, we will build to it and hand it off.
We do, unless you would rather do it yourself. Every site we build comes with a care plan option that covers software and plugin updates, security patching, backups, uptime monitoring, and a set amount of content changes each month, such as new hours, a new staff photo, a price change, or a seasonal promotion. Send an email or call and it gets done, usually the same business day. If you want to make your own edits we will build the site so the pages you actually change are easy to edit and we will walk you through it. Most owners want somebody else to handle it, which is fine, because that is the job.
The technical foundation is included in every build: fast page speed, mobile-first layout, clean heading structure, page titles and descriptions written for the searches you want, schema markup so Google understands what your business is and where it is, an XML sitemap, and Google Search Console and Analytics hooked up before launch. We also write the service and location pages around what people around here actually type into Google. What is not included is ongoing SEO work, meaning monthly content, link building, review generation, and Google Business Profile management. That is a separate service, and plenty of local businesses do fine on the built-in foundation alone for a good while.
Honestly, for some businesses those are fine. If you are a one-person operation, you enjoy tinkering, and you have a weekend to spend on it, a DIY builder will get you a presentable page for around $20 a month. The trouble is what it costs you in time and in what you cannot do. Those platforms are slower to load, harder to make rank well, and limited the moment you want something they did not plan for, like a booking flow tied to your calendar or a quote form that pushes to your CRM. You also cannot move the site off the platform if you outgrow it. And when it breaks at 8pm before a big weekend, you are opening a chat window with a stranger instead of calling somebody in town who knows your business.
Yes, and it is a big part of what we do. Sometimes an existing site just needs speed work, a mobile fix, updated content, and a security cleanup, which costs a fraction of a rebuild. Sometimes it is ten years old, built on something nobody supports anymore, and it is cheaper to start over than to keep patching it. We will look at what you have and tell you which one it is, even when the honest answer is the cheaper one. We can also take over a site somebody else built and abandoned, including WordPress sites where the original developer has disappeared and nobody has the logins.
Murray and Calloway County are home, and there is real value in being able to sit down at your counter and look at the site together. But we build and host for businesses across western Kentucky, including Mayfield, Benton, Paducah, Cadiz, Princeton, and Hopkinsville, plus northern Tennessee around Paris and Clarksville. Local matters here in a way it does not for a national platform: we know which towns your customers drive from, we know the seasons that move with Murray State, and we answer the phone in the same time zone you are in.
