The challenge
Mainstream flight trackers inherit government-feed filtering, so military, LADD, and privacy-flagged aircraft quietly disappear. They are also loaded with ads and tracking SDKs.
Rendering thousands of moving aircraft over a live weather layer on a phone, smoothly and on battery, is a real engineering problem, not a template.
What we built
We built a native iPhone and iPad app on top of the volunteer airplanes.live receiver network, showing the raw picture the network actually hears. Map tiles and weather come from our own self-hosted servers, which is how the app can promise no third-party trackers.
Live NOAA MRMS radar sits under the traffic, a controller-style scope mode highlights emergency squawks, and watchlists send a push alert when a followed aircraft takes off. The full map is free; Pro adds alerts and extras by subscription.

Altitude coloring, type-specific silhouettes, trails, and search by callsign, registration, or hex code.

ATC scope mode
Controller-style data blocks, convergence flagging, and 7500 / 7600 / 7700 emergency squawk highlighting.
Watchlists and push alerts
Get notified when a followed aircraft takes off or when anything squawks 7700.
Self-hosted infrastructure
Our own map tile, cartography, and weather servers keep the app fast and keep user data out of third-party hands.
Feeders fly free
Anyone running a receiver that feeds the network gets Pro free for as long as it keeps feeding.
